I‘ve heard moms say that things don’t get easier as kids get older, they get different. But I don’t think that’s true. I think they’ve forgotten what it was like—sleep deprivation, showers being luxuries, being immersed in a kaleidoscopic world of puppets and animated characters that speak slowly and deliberately as if they’re teaching you a foreign language that you have no hopes of ever grasping. I love parenting older kids. My role is more confidant than maid. We have meaningful conversations. And they can make their own breakfast. It’s bliss.
